Aretha Louise Franklin born in Memphis, Tennessee in 1942, was a singer-songwriter, actress, pianist, and Civil Rights Activist. Franklin began her career as a child, singing gospel at a Baptist church in Detroit, MI where her father was a minister. Aretha’s accolades include 18 grammys, 8 Best Female R&B Vocalist Awards, The Presidential Medal of Freedom, National Medal of Arts, first woman in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Rolling Stone’s List 100 Best Singers, a Pulitzer Prize for music, and member of National Women’s Hall of Fame. "The Queen of Soul” died in 2018.
