Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born in New York City in 1884. Eleanor was the longest serving First Lady of the United States, while married to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. She served as U.S. Delegate to the United Nations from 1945-1952. When FDR took ill with a paralytic illness, she filled in for him appearing and speaking at official events in his place. Eleanor was a respected published journalist and radio show host. She was instrumental in women’s rights and human rights throughout her life.
