Georgia Totto O’Keeffe was born in Wisconsin in 1887, is known for her extremely large flowers, desert artifacts, and landscape paintings. In the art world she gained the tagline “Mother of American Modernism”. O’Keeffe had formal art training and was an art teacher at several colleges. Georgia met and married Alfred Stieglitz, a prominent art dealer, and he held an exhibit of her works in New York in 1917. O’Keeffe’s work is among the highest sought after female art in the world. The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum was established in Santa Fe after her death in 1986.
