Helen Adams Keller born in Alabama in 1880 was an author, disability rights advocate, political activist and lecturer. As a toddler Helen lost her sight and hearing due to illness. At seven, Anne Sullivan became her life-long teacher and companion. Keller became the first deaf, blind, person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. She toured the world teaching people with disabilities. Her credits include 14 books and countless essays, member of the NAACP and American Civil Liberties Union. “The Miracle Worker” is one of her most famous works. Helen died in 1968.
