Mary Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker best known for her tender, intimate depictions of mothers and children. Born in 1844, she spent much of her career in France, where she became closely associated with the Impressionist movement and was one of the few women accepted into its inner circle. Her work stood out for its sensitive use of color and light, as well as its focus on the private lives of women. Cassatt helped pave the way for future female artists and was also instrumental in introducing Impressionist art to American collectors. Her legacy lives on through her quietly powerful portrayals of everyday life.
