Sheila Jackson Lee (1950-2024)was born in Queens NY. Sheila became a lawyer at Duke after attending Harvard. Sheila also was an influential democratic member of the US Congress. She is the author and lead sponsor of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act, which was the first new federal holiday in 38 years. Jackson Lee is the author and fighter for the passage of the Violence Against Women's Act. The Congresswoman's other major legislative initiatives include the Sentencing Reform Act, the George Floyd Law Enforcement Trust and Integrity Act, The RAISE Act, The Fair Chance for Youth Act, the Kimberly Vaughan Firearm Safe Storage Act, Kaleif's Law, the American RISING Act and Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Research and Education Act. She is recognized as being one of the all time most influential members of Congress.
