Susan B. Anthony was born in 1820 in Massachusetts. Susan was a social reformer, women’s rights activist, and very active in the women’s suffrage movement. In 1866, she worked to create the American Equal Rights Association, which requested equal rights for women and African Americans. In 1878 the Susan B. Anthony Amendment was presented to Congress. In 1920 it was ratified as the Nineteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, giving women the right to vote. Susan B. was the first female citizen printed on U.S. 1979 dollar coin. Anthony died in 1906.
