Joan Ruth Bader Ginsburg was born in New York City in 1933. Ginsburg was a lawyer, law professor, and an appointed associate justice of the United States Supreme Court. She was the first Jewish woman and only the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court after Sandra Day O’Connor. Ruth was an ardent advocate for gender equality and women’s rights. She became a pop icon later in life and earned the nickname “The Notorious R.B.G.” for her passionate liberal views. “R.B.G.” worked until her very last days and died in 2020 of pancreatic cancer.
